North Shore (Haleiwa) Lunch Guide for Visitors

Local Food — Haleiwa Joe’s

Haleiwa Joe’s is a classic favorite. The original location sits by the Anahulu Uka Bridge, also known as the Rainbow Bridge.  The restaurant is open for dinner nightly, but on weekends, the hotspot opens for brunch.  Here, patrons get their fill of small plates such as ceviche and coconut shrimp, or larger format but casual dishes like chicken sandwiches, loco moco, and fish & chips.

Burgers — Teddy’s Bigger Burgers (Haleiwa Store Lots)

The homegrown burger shop is known for its big, juicy burgers zhuzhed up with a tangy, sweet house sauce.  Throw in some fries to hit the spot.

Local Food — Uncle Bo’s (Haleiwa)

The popular island bar located on Kapahulu extends its comfort-driven food and fun bar vibe to the Haleiwa community.

The North Shore location also runs a weekend brunch that is not available in town, so check out the brunch dishes on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m.

Café — Island Vintage Coffee (Haleiwa Store Lots)

Like its Waikiki and Honolulu locations, Island Vintage Coffee is an easy breakfast and lunch stop. 

Enjoy açai bowls, sandwiches, poke bowls, and of course Hawaiian coffee right across from Matsumoto Shave Ice.

Local Food — Stonefish Grill (Haleiwa Town Center)

Stonefish Grill is a bright and breezy spot with lots of outdoor seating.  

Here, plates include burgers, grilled fish, garlic shrimp, and loco moco for a taste of the islands.

Burgers — Kua ‘Aina (Haleiwa)

This iconic burger shop started in the North Shore, and has been around since 1975.  

Imagine burgers grilled over hot lava rocks, then nestled between pillowy buns tempered in sweetness.  This is a must-try burger, especially with its skinny crispy fries.

Italian — Spaghettini (Haleiwa)

This Italian eatery is loved by locals. 

Since 1998, Spaghettini has crafted hand-made sauces for the pasta dishes, and dough for its pizzas, which are baked to order.  It’s kid-friendly, as all Italian restaurants should be!

Poke Bowls — Poke for the People (Haleiwa Plantation Shops)

Just as its name suggests, Poke for the People serves hearty, fresh poke bowls with lots of add-ons for everyone to enjoy.  

Because the owner is a former fisherman, he strives to serve the freshest tuna and toppings.  Be sure to try the most-loved poke, the Spicy Tuna.  Dine in or grab some to go and enjoy your meal at the beach.

Local Favorite — Kono’s (Haleiwa)

Home of the 12-hour slow-roasted kalua pork, Kono’s boasts about this award-winning signature.  

Get the pork in a bowl, in a sandwich, or as a wrap for a quick, enjoyable North Shore lunch.

Mexican-American & Breakfast — Cafe Haleiwa

The café epitomizes colorful, old-Hawai‘i charm with its pancakes, omelets, waffles, loco moco, and Tex-Mex-style plates.  

This place just screams cute, both inside and out.

Shave Ice — Matsumoto Shave Ice (Haleiwa Store Lots)

This shave ice shop needs no introduction. 

It is an icon that has endured the times and continues to please new generations of families.  The best way to eat the shave ice is to add mochi balls, house-made azuki, and ice cream for a deluxe treat.  Don’t be scared off by the long lines, because it moves fast.

Bakery — Paalaa Kai Bakery (Waialua)

On the way to Haleiwa, make a quick stop in neighboring Waialua for Paalaa Kai Bakery’s famous Snow Puffies

These flaky pastries stuffed with custard are perfectly balanced in sweetness.  Just fair warning that they are extremely addictive and if you choose to eat them in the car, be prepared to have everything flocked with powdered sugar.  Just don’t get pulled over, as the cop may get the wrong idea, especially if you have sugar all over your face.
